Accounting Specialist - Post Award Accounting
Job Summary:
To perform a variety of accounting tasks involved in maintaining financial records, processing data, and the monitoring, verification, and reconciliation of accounts.
Education & Experience
Associates degree in accounting or related field and two (2) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze and resolve problems.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates in the processing, balancing, and reconciliation of departmental accounting transactions.
  • Compiles, processes, and enters departmental data; prepares required reports.
  • Monitors grant/contracts financial status to include evaluating purchase requisitions, consultant fees and travel expenses, petty cash, interdepartmental invoices, and external contractor invoices.
  • Establishes and assigns coding of cash receipts and expenditures; prepares indirect cost adjustments on payment receipts for specified accounts.
  • Reviews expense and accounting documents for accuracy and appropriate approvals and ensures transactions are charged to the appropriate account.
  • Interfaces with other relevant staff to identify and resolve accounting, grant, and/or other fiscal problems.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires occasional exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, frequent activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, constant sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
