Job Summary:
To provide academic assessment and instruction to children while hospitalized and to establish homebound teaching as necessary. To assess computer requirements for children and integrate the use of technology into curriculum design.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field; experience cannot be substituted for educational requirement.
Mississippi Department of Education Teaching License/Endorsement in the area of Special Education.

- Reviews hospital census on a daily basis to determine patients requiring school services; assesses patients’ cognitive abilities to identify strengths, weaknesses, and functioning level.
- Prepares for teaching by obtaining assignments and/or providing supplemental materials.
- Instructs students in one or more subjects, administers tests, and evaluates student progress.
- Maintains documentation of educational services provided, records tests results, and issues reports on student progress.
- Consults with family members. Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, corresponds with school personnel, and establishes school re-entry plans.
- Determines computer requirements of student patients and teaching faculty and maintains an inventory of computers, equipment, and supplies as applicable to the position.
