Department Summary
The School of Education, collectively, is a high-energy, engaging school. The SOE encourages interactions with colleagues and students, individual growth and development, and creates opportunities for these levels of engagement.
The SOE Student Advising and Field Experience Office focuses on working as a collaborate team to support our undergraduate students in their progression to degree completion. Our staff works to communicate effectively with students, faculty,student affairs administrators, and other stakeholders.

Role Summary
Advises students on academic matters, such as course selection and degree requirements, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality to ensure students reach academic, personal, and professional success.
This position provides academic counseling to students, supports retention initiatives, maintains academic records, and assesses need for student referrals to other support services on campus. This position requires knowledge (training is provided by the University) in technical use of the platform for student records currently SAP, but transitioning to Banner.
Examples of Work Performed
General (daily) responsibilities in the advising office may include maintaining degree audit and updating student academic records, responding to emails / phone calls, checking grades and / or "benchmarks" for student progression, and meeting with students scheduled for appointments.
Peak advising appointment times are late February through early April and late September through early November. Additionally, the beginning and end of each semester is a more active time of in person appointments and communication with students.
Our office works with University student orientations. Accordingly, these sessions take place weekly from late May until mid July. We work with incoming students to discuss academic overviews of our degree program and advise and assist with booking / registering for classes.
Essential Functions

1. Receives, processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures.
2.Serves as a main point of contact for students providing basic organizational information about educational options, academic requirements and institutional resources and addressing their needs.
3.Counsels students in identifying and assessing their interests, skills and values to match appropriate fields of study and career options and refers students to appropriate institutional resources.
4. Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records according to program policies.

Education : Bachelor's Degree
