Department Summary
The Department of Public Health (http:// https://olemiss.edu/departments/applied-sciences/public-health/) is home to 6 faculty, 2 staff members, and over 200 students from around the world. Our public health undergraduate degree has two concentrations (health science and community health) and our MPH has two concentrations (epidemiology and community health). Additionally, we have a joint PharmD/MPH program with our School of Pharmacy.
The School of Applied Sciences, located on the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford, MS (https://olemiss.edu/), is an inclusive home to approximately 150 faculty and staff, over 2,900 students, six academic departments including the Department of Public Health (DPH), three centers and an institute. The School currently serves 10 undergraduate, 10 masters and four doctoral programs (https://sas.olemiss.edu/).

Role Summary
The Department of Public Health at the University of Mississippi is seeking applications for a Public Health Program Coordinator. Major job responsibilities include managing on and off-campus recruitment materials and activities, fielding prospective student inquiries, facilitating interactions with faculty and staff, overseeing program admissions, teaching, advising, and other duties as assigned.
The position provides curricular and co-curricular experience that provides opportunities for learning and development outside of the classroom experience. This position coordinates planning of programs.
Examples of Work Performed
- Oversee the Master of Public Health (MPH) admissions process, including review of applications and admission communications
- Facilitate public health recruitment activities both on and off-campus
- Act as a point-of-contact for prospective students interested in public health
- Work in partnership with department faculty and staff to plan and conduct orientation activities for new students
- Oversee student matriculation, course enrollment, and progress through public health programs, ensuring students meet graduation requirements
- Advise MPH students related to course registration, course permission, and department and university policy exceptions
- Act as a liaison between the department and other campus units, including the School of Applied Sciences, Academic Outreach, and the Graduate School
- Oversee nominations for student awards and fellowships
- Work in partnership with the Department Chair regarding graduate assistant assignments, contracts, and scheduling
- Oversee alumni communication and engagement
- Coordinate public health student practicum experiences, including affiliation agreements with community and campus partners
- Assist with public health accreditation activities
- Other duties as assigned
Teaching Responsibility:
Teach one course per semester.
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
1. Plans and executes one or multiple student programs, activities and/or services.
2. Evaluates and promotes existing strategies and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program enhancement.
3. Contributes to the design of a suite of student-focused programming and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing programs and initiatives.
4. Resolves questions and issues escalated by individual students and groups using discretion beyond established guidelines.
5. Monitors the program budget and approves expenditures.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: (6) Six Years Experience
An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in public health (MPH) or a health-related field
- Evidence of strong connections/collaborations within the public health field
- At least 3 years’ experience working in public health
- History of developing and maintaining partnerships with relevant public health agencies and organizations
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills
- Experience with event planning and coordination
