The Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer ScienceDivision of UNM-Valencia is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of ComputerScience or Computer Science / Mathematics at UNM-Valencia. This posting is for a full-time, 9-month,tenure-track position. The position begins on August 11, 2025.
Located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in ruralValencia County, the University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-yearbranch community college associated with the University of New Mexico. With anemphasis on teaching excellence, the Valencia Campus offers vocational andtechnical courses and academic transfer courses to the citizens of Valencia andnorthern Socorro counties. The faculty and staff serve a student body ofapproximately 2,300 each semester.
Salary : Thebase salary range for a nine-month faculty position is $57,000. Summer teachingis possible and optional with additional compensation. Officespace, computer hardware, software, and an excellent benefits package will beprovided.
Summaryof duties and responsibilities : Provide12 credit hours of classroom instruction in computer science and / or mathematicscontent courses during the fall and spring semesters. Responsibilities also includemaintaining attendance, scholastic, and student records and posting andmaintaining office hours, some of which may occur in the Learning Commons. Additionally,there is expected participation in college committees, curriculum developmentinitiatives, outcomes assessment, professional development (directly related tothe teaching field), classroom technology training, departmental projects, andother areas of service and scholarship as appropriate. Responsibilities mayinclude participation in Undergraduate Research initiatives related to currentgrant awards (as applicable).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
Master's degree in Computer Science or Mathematics or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Computer Science.
One or more years of teaching college-level Computer Science or Mathematics classes at a post-secondary institution.
Preferred Qualifications :
- or ABD (all but dissertation) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Computer Science.
- Two or more years of teaching a wide range of Computer Science and Mathematics courses at a two-year, post-secondary institution.
- Commitment to and potential for service and professional development.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Experience working with computer-based instruction, calculators, and other technology in the classroom.
- Experience teaching online or hybrid / blended courses.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, student success, and working with broadly diverse communities.
