Position Summary
The University of New Mexico College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (CULLS) has an opening for a Research and Data Services Librarian. This position is a full-time, 12-month, tenure track position with a minimum hiring salary of $76,267 and . This position has a starting rank of Assistant Professor, with salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. This position reports to the Director of Learning, Research, and Engagement. As a member of the highly collaborative Learning, Research, and Engagement team, the Research and Data Services (RDS) Librarian will increase the impact of UNM research through the development and implementation of services supporting FAIR data sharing, data literacy, and ethical data practices. The RDS Librarian will collaborate with campus stakeholders including the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Center for Advanced Research Computing, and the UNM Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center. The RDS Librarian will promote leading practices in data management and open science through the development of sustainable educational and consultation programs, instruction, and data curation and preservation. This position also provides critical support for researchers in developing data management plans, organizing datasets, and facilitating compliance with funding mandates.
The successful candidate will engage the broader campus community with empathy, curiosity, and a strong service orientation. Through frequent collaboration with colleagues in the College and across campus, the RDS Librarian will have the opportunity to grow and develop as a professional through participation in and support for initiatives such as UNM , generative AI projects, and library data projects.
Primary Duties
- Lead initiatives to support FAIR data management and sharing across disciplines.
- Provide consultations and workshops on data management planning, ethical data practices, and research data curation.
- Consult on the curation of datasets for publication in the UNM Digital Repository, Dryad, or other repositories as chosen by researchers.
- Serve as a data curator in the Data Curation Network ( and participate in Data Curation Network governance through committee and other services.
- Contribute to the College’s data science initiatives, including coordination of and participation in Software, Data, and Library Carpentry workshops.
- Stay informed of evolving policies, technologies, and best practices in data management and open scholarship.
- Build strategic partnerships within the university and beyond to foster interdisciplinary research and innovation.
- Actively engage in professional development and contribute to governance within the University Libraries.
- Engage in professional development through regional and national service.
- Contribute to the College and the profession through research and scholarship.
- Support the collaborative development and implementation of Graduate and Faculty Engagement programs, including reference consultations and library instruction.
