As anationally accredited program with a strong educational component in TheUniversity of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the MedicalInvestigator (OMI) investigates any death occurring across the state of NewMexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected or where a person is founddead and the cause of death is unknown. The OMI, which is a special programwithin the Department of Pathology, determines the cause and manner of death inthese cases, and provides formal death certification.
OMI is currently lookingfor a Deputy Medical Investigator to join our team. Our ideal candidate will bea team player and willing to learn. This person must be able to work withdecedents in various types of scene settings and in various body conditions.Our ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and be able to follow complexinstruction. We need someone with a great deal of resilience and that is nottriggered by odors. The position also requires data entry, writing, and a highdegree of attention to detail. This position requires the ability to drivecompany vehicles and pass and maintain the required certification for ABMDI.This position requires work on 2nd and 3rd shifts and the ability to work 10hour shifts. Work on holidays and weekends also required. This position alsorequires the handling and moving of decedents, sometimes over 300 pounds insmall, tight spaces.

Conditions of Employment
- Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
- May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
- UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
- Ability to secure and maintain a valid UNM Driver's License.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
- Pre-employment background investigation required.
- Must maintain certification status.
- Must achieve Registry level certification with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigations (ABMDI) within one year of employment.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
- All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field; at least 1 year of experience directly related the to duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and / or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.
