Position Summary
The School of Architecture and Planning is seekingapplications for Fab Lab Assistants.
Under the direct supervision and mentorship of theFabrication Lab Coordinator, Fab Lab Assistants will be involved in a widerange of projects with varying levels of complexity. The responsibilities ofthis position include but are not limited to : assisting lab users by providingguidance and support for their production needs; performing various lab andequipment maintenance tasks, assisting with construction / fabrication projects,performing building maintenance duties in Pearl Hall, and monitoring for thesafety of all Fab Lab users.
Additional responsibilities will include the ability to moveand lift objects up to 30lbs, operating analog tools and equipment in thewoodshop and metal shop, as well as digital fabrication equipment such as lasercutters, CNC routers, CNC plasma cutters, and associated software / programs. Allapplicants must have the capacity to maintain a safe and professional attitude.The successful candidate will be required to complete all required safety andequipment trainings. Preferred Qualifications
PreferredQualifications :
- Graduate or Undergraduate studentstatus in a degree granting program in the School of Architecture &Planning, College of Fine Art, College of Engineering, or other degree grantingprogram at UNM.
- Experience with analogfabrication processes including woodworking, metalworking, and model buildingas we;; as experience with digital fabrication processes, equipment, andsoftware.
- Demonstration of familiarityand knowledge in Rhino and the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability and willingness tolearn new programs, tools, equipment and apply them to the job.
- Ability to work evening andweekend shifts in the Fab Lab, including Monday-Thursday 9am-9pm, Friday9am-3pm, and weekends 10am-5pm.
