Position Summary
High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is a federally funded five-year discretionary grant under the . Department of Education, Office of Migrant Education, to assist migrant and seasonal agricultural workers and their immediate family members to earn their High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma. HEP is looking to start hiring a tutor for Summer 2025 with the possibility of extending the position into the Fall and Spring.
HEP hires Tutors to conduct tutoring in the areas of Math, Science, Writing, Reading and Social Studies related to the Spanish and English HSE exam.
Tutoring is provided weekdays (Monday through Friday) and possibly weekends (Saturday and / or Sunday) during various hours of the day and evening, depending on the program student’s individual availability.
Tutors will work alongside academic staff to enhance and improve student’s learning.
A normal work week consists of 10-15 hours.
Tutors will need to be familiar with the objectives, policies, and guidelines of HEP; attend regular staff and tutor meetings; complete mandatory UNM and departmental trainings; assist with the coordination of workshops, orientations, and events; willing to learn and perform all tutoring duties through training and staff support; perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned and includes intermittent or regular office duties.
Primary Duties :
- Provides online and in person tutoring and mentoring to HEP participants.
- Tutor student participants individually and / or in groups.
- Develops and prepares lesson plans for tutoring sessions.
- Maintains communication with assigned participants related to tutoring and instructional needs.
- Maintains tutor logs for each tutoring session.
- Reports tutoring and instructional needs / concerns of assigned participants to HEP staff.
- Prepares tutoring reports for HEP staff.
- Ensures the instructional needs of assigned participants are being met by monitoring student files regularly for academic progress.
