Position SummaryThe Department of Pathology is seeking a qualified applicant for a part-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Tissue Banking/Laboratory Medicine. The selected candidate will have responsibilities as the Director of University Hospital and Sandoval Regional Medical Center's Tissue Bank Laboratory.The University of New Mexico Hospital, the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state, specializes in trauma, burns, high-risk obstetrics, cardiothoracic surgery, oncology, autologous stem cell transplantation and neonatal intensive care. Sandoval Regional Medical Center is a Level 3 Trauma Center located in northern Rio Rancho, with a high-volume orthopedic service.The candidate selected for this position will be involved in reviewing new proposed tissue products, and reviewing/updating tissue bank protocols and procedures as well as ensuring regulatory compliance. Additional responsibilities will include educating trainees on the transfusion medicine rotation on topics related to tissue banking and providing formal didactics to pathology residents during their Friday morning lecture series. The University of New Mexico Hospital, the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state, specializes in trauma, burns, high-risk obstetrics, cardiothoracic surgery, oncology, autologous stem cell transplantation and neonatal intensive care. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the mission of the division of Laboratory Medicine in quality assurance and outreach activities. Teaching and mentoring responsibilities include transfusion medicine fellows, pathology residents, as well as other fellows, residents, medical students, and technologists. The successful applicant will work in cooperation with TriCore Reference Laboratories, a nonprofit organization sponsored by University Hospital and Presbyterian Medical Services, in providing medical oversight for the coagulation operations.
