FTE 1 Position Overall Competency Level C Recruitment Range $41,572 - $58,240 Anticipated Hiring Range $41,572 - $58,240 Position # 3562 FLSA Status Non-Exempt Months per year 12 Work Schedule 8-500 8 : 00 - 5 : 00 Work Schedule Type Flexible Primary Purpose of Organization Unit The Southeastern Prevention and Addiction Recovery Resource Center (SPARC) supports collaborative teams of faculty, student, and community-based organizations and individuals aiming to conduct community-based participatory research to get a better understanding of the gaps and barriers to substance recovery in our Primary Purpose of Position The Social Research Specialist will support the activities for developing and implementing a strategic planning process being conducted by the Southeastern Prevention and Addiction Recovery Center (SPARC) related to the Opioid Settlement Funding. This professional will participate in the research and administrative activities involving various efforts in developing the strategic plan. Job Description The Social Research Specialist will support the activities for developing and implementing a strategic planning process being conducted by the Southeastern Prevention and Addiction Recovery Center (SPARC) related to the Opioid Settlement Funding. This professional will participate in the research and administrative activities involving various efforts in developing the strategic plan.

This is a full-time, grant-based, appointment expected to end February 1st, 2026; however, the position may be continued if additional funding is received.

The Social Research Specialist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Work with faculty / staff on developing and implementing the preliminary strategic plans related to distributing the Robeson County Opioid Settlement Funding.
  • Work with RCORP Consortium, Robeson County government entities, and other collaborators across the county focused on opioid / substance use disorders (OUD) / SUD).
  • Assist with project planning and design, implementation, and data management.
  • Implement a data collection process.
  • Collect, clean, organize, and assist with analyzing data.
  • Handle a large volume of data in an organized, efficient manner.
  • Create / validate theories through data / information collection, documentation, and analysis.
  • Learn / train on research study processes.
  • Assist with developing and presenting to the team as well as external stakeholders.
  • Assist with preparing reports, publications, and related products, communications, instruction, and public education.
  • Stay abreast of current literature related to OUD / SUD.
  • Assist with administrative duties and other duties as specified by Principal & Co-Investigators.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with an interest in learning about research methods and working on research related to opioid / substance use disorders. They should be reliable, honest, detail-oriented, and punctual. They should have familiarity with Microsoft Office, Doodle and survey polls, Canva, Google Docs, Google Forms, Qualtrics, and virtual platforms (WebEx, Zoom). Experience working in rural communities is preferred. Individual must have the ability to work effectively in the environment of an academically demanding institution and abide by all institutional policies.
  • MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences (or a discipline related to the field) and one year of related training or experience, or combination of training or experience necessary to perform the work. Research and evaluation experience in behavioral health preferred; MSW, LCAS / LCAS-A preferred.
  • ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED) :

  • General understanding of scientific theory and methods, typically gained through completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • Experience in data collection,management, and analysis.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly / lift / carry / push / pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand / walk, sit, use a telephone and other office equipment.
  • Management Preference Bachelor’s degree in social sciences (or a discipline related to the field) and one year of related training or experience, or combination of training or experience necessary to perform the work.
