Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
Student Support Services (SSS) is a TRIO-grant support program designed to maximize academic performance for UNCG students who are first-generation, from modest income backgrounds, or who have a disability, and who also demonstrate academic need for services.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Academic and Personal Advising coordinates all aspects of supplemental advising services for students in the SSS program, including academic, graduate school, career, and mental health topics. The Assistant Director carries out duties as a student advisor and advocate, as well as a supervisor of the peer mentoring program and advising component Graduate Assistant. The Assistant Director works closely with the rest of the TRIO team to advise and support the 200 students enrolled in the SSS program. Employee will plan and participate in student events and college tours in NC and outside NC. This travel may require driving students in rental vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications
- The candidate must have a Master’s degree in community, school, or college counseling.
- Additionally, the candidate must have at least 2 years of direct advising/counseling experience, preferably in education.
- The candidate should have some experience or be familiar with the unique challenges facing first-generation college students.
