The Academic Coordinator in Bioengineering (BE) in Penn Engineering will build documents and process infrastructure for managing key academic and communication functions such as rostering, accreditation, data collection, and analysis to inform and support strategic goals of the department, as well as support senior faculty.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Take the lead in the preparation of the BE roster (undergrad, master's, and PhD courses). Carefully examine and help create the BE master schedule. Work to ensure that cross-listed courses are correctly rostered, often several semesters in advance. Coordinate and update Curriculum Manager with course and program updates for undergraduate and graduate curricula. Schedule final exams. Facilitate XCAT requests.
- Maintain knowledge of the required undergraduate curriculum to assist in advising students regarding registration questions and graduation activities, e.g., clearing worksheets and senior audits. Process permits for all BE courses (PhD, master's, and undergraduate).
- Serve as primary administrative / logistical support for the ABET accreditation process and faculty committee. Act as primary logistical support for the preparation of documents and during accreditation site visits. Collect, track, and analyze department data, including but not limited to course enrollment, course evaluation data, student GPAs, advisor satisfaction, evaluations, etc., for internal and external use.
- Coordinate administrative aspects of the bioengineering program, including all relevant communication with students and faculty. Maintain student records.
- Manage paperwork to hire course support, i.e., TAs and graders.
- Assign faculty advisors for bioengineering students. Design student surveys for faculty advising and present results annually to the Chair.
- Support the activities of the academic chair and provide administrative support to a limited number of senior faculty members.
