Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Gift Shop Manager, the Gift Shop Clerk will primarily be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Shop, which includes opening and closing registers, ringing sales, assisting customers, and keeping the Shop clean and well stocked. This person will help provide exemplary customer service by becoming familiar with the Shop inventory, Museum space (galleries, bathrooms, classrooms, etc.), and Museum Programs. They will also be tasked with additional duties as needed. This will include taking and editing photographs of merchandise for the online store, interfacing with the online shop (Shopify), writing merchandise descriptions, packing, and shipping online sales, and assisting in the maintenance of the warehouse. They also function as a representative of the Museum to the public and help promote organization-wide initiatives such as membership sales and special exhibition promotions and events. Weekend availability and flexibility throughout the week are essential.

Job Responsibilities
- Operate the Museum's POS system to process merchandise and membership sales and open and close the registers at the opening and close of the day. Securely handle cash, credit, and check payment transactions at the shop's register.
- Assist the Shop Manager with merchandise photography and maintaining the Shop's online presence (Shopify, Instagram).
- Assist in the maintenance of the shop by making sure the store is clean, well-stocked and merchandised.
- Assist the manager and colleagues with other tasks, such as walking the floor during busy times, navigating school groups into and out of the Shop, packing and shipping online sales, etc.
- Be knowledgeable about the Shop's products and how they relate to the Museum's collections; being familiar with the Museum's galleries, special exhibitions, events, layout, and protocols.
- Work with the Shop manager to ensure proper merchandise mix and tracking of sales data for strategic decision-making.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
