Lab Manager
The Sequencing Center Lab Manager will provide oversight and management of all aspects of operation of the sequencing facility, as well as designing, performing, and interpretation of data. Bioinformatic analyses are a critical component of this position. This includes establishment and maintenance of training protocols. Management of the Sequencing Center requires supervision of Laboratory Technicians in the preparation of sequencing runs. Experience and advanced knowledge of an Illumina NextSeq is required. Responsibilities also include organization and distribution of sequencing and finishing data used by over 100 partner institutions in the Science Education Alliance Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program.
Manages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions.
Incumbent will work independently with direction/supervision as needed. Must maintain momentum of ongoing sequencing, rectify minor technical and scientific issues with personnel. Must have bioinformatics skills need for specific analyses. Must have excellent math skills, ability to develop new and complex protocols incorporating new techniques and strategic thinking.
Extended periods of standing at lab benches. Lifting moderately heavy supplies, solutions or equipment.
