What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Scientist Roth Lab position at The University of Pittsburgh?
Research Scientist Roth Lab
Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.
The position requires coordinating multiple projects aimed at large-scale measurement of functions for genetic variants in human disease genes. The position will entail development and validation of scalable assays for human variant impact, which may use both human cell and humanized yeast models. Multiplexing of these assays will proceed by application of various means of screening/selection, e.g. competitive growth or fluorescence-activated cell-sorting. The role will also require the demonstrated ability to both use and develop experimental and computational tools for the support and analysis of large-scale mutagenesis of specific human disease genes, sequencing-based multiplexed readout of functional assays for variant clones, dissemination and analysis of the resulting maps. Downstream analysis will include analysis of the relationship between variant functions and protein or RNA structure, and with human phenotypes. The role will also involve experimental and computational support and guidance for other ongoing projects in the lab. The incumbent will be expected to perform research with a high degree of independence, and research supervision of students or other trainees. The role will further require leadership in preparing funding applications and communication and coordination with the PI, collaborators and funders, and in developing manuscripts and presenting the lab's research at local, national and international conferences.
Physical effort associated with wet lab work, i.e. standing while conducting experiments, sitting while working on computer, walking back and forth in the lab to sinks and microscopes, lifting packages less than 20lbs., etc.
