Resident Director
The Resident Director is a member of the professional live-in Residence Life staff at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. The Resident Director will be responsible for the overall management of 1 - 2 residence halls on campus, and will support the Housing department and University in its mission, goals and policies. The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg residence halls have 100 - 125 beds.
Oversees and manages the University’s residential facilities, residence life educational programs, residentially-based academic communities, residence life student and professional staff, and all promotional communications for the department. Ensures the safety and security of residents and development of the departmental comprehensive emergency management plan. Facilitates operational decisions within broadly defined parameters that require a high level of judgement. Establishes the direction, goals, implementation strategy, and policies of the department. Performs budgetary functions.
The Resident Director holds an important role in the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Housing & Residence Life department and works in conjunction with the Student Life and Success office. The Resident Director is responsible for the following:
- Assisting the students and establishing regular office hours (approx. 20 hours/week);
- Supporting and overseeing a staff of 4 - 8 Community Assistants (CAs) in the areas of programming, supervision, and personal/professional development;
- Managing roommate and/or staff conflicts in their assigned residence hall;
- Enforcing residence hall policies and procedures fairly, and meeting with students as part of the student conduct process;
- Overseeing daily operations of assigned residence hall, working with Facilities Management staff and campus police to ensure a safe environment in the residence halls;
- Participating in professional staff’s on-call/duty rotation and responding to concerns as they arise. Each professional staff member is on duty approximately 1 night/week and 1 weekend/month, as well as during select University recesses;
- Developing community building and educational programs and initiatives as part of the department’s residential curriculum;
- Assisting the Housing & Residence Life Director with Community Assistant (CA) recruitment, selection, and training; housing procedures; and opening and closing of residence halls at the beginning and end of each semester and for scheduled break periods;
- Serving as an advisor to one of the departmental-related organizations - Residence Hall Association (RHA) or the Outdoor Adventure and Community Service (OACS);
- Creating content and messaging for Housing and Residence Life social media and communication; ensuring consistent messaging for the department and programs;
- Designing, developing and implementing Housing and Residence Life assessments and/or surveys; reviewing and recommending changes and improvements;
- Organizing summer residence life activities.
The position will require nontraditional work hours due to needs of campus residents and activities related to enhancing student life and experiences. The position is sedentary, but will require walking to on-campus events and meetings.
