The Department of History at the University of South Dakota seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor Teaching areas will include World History and undergraduate and graduate courses. This is a 9-month, full-time, benefit eligible position within the Department of History. The Department of History offers a B.A., B.S. and M.A. in History. The Department also houses the Native American Studies and Philosophy majors, and minors in Religious Studies, Classical Humanities, and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies.
Responsibilities

Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in World Civilizations, the History methods capstone course, electives in the applicant’s areas of expertise, interdisciplinary cross-listed courses, and in the University Honors program as assigned. The position carries a 3-3 teaching load.
- Periodically teach graduate seminars, serve on graduate committees and University Honors thesis committees.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; teach Independent Studies as needed.
- Develop a research program which includes peer-reviewed publication.
- Participate in Departmental, College, and University service; participate in professional service and outreach activities.
- PhD in History or closely related field by first day of employment;
- Ability to teach introductory, advanced undergraduate, and graduate courses;
- Ability to develop an independent research program;
- Potential to publish the results of original research in peer-reviewed venues;
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
