The University of South Dakota’s Beacom School of Business seeks applications for an Accounting Instructor or Assistant Professor of Practice position beginning in fall 2025. The Beacom School of Business is the flagship business school in South Dakota with programs consistently receiving high national rankings from U.S. News and World Report, the Princeton Review, and others. The Accounting Department has experienced significant enrollment growth, offering its undergraduate major on its Vermillion and Sioux Falls campuses, making it the school’s largest major. At the graduate level, students take classes on its main campus or through its online Master of Accountancy programs, including its specializations in Accounting Analytics, Leadership, Business Management, and Finance. The online program, now in its 12th year, is nationally ranked due to its affordability and high CPA exam pass rate. Through the efforts of the School’s Career Success Center, the program has an exceptionally high placement rate of its graduates and consistently places students each year in internships with Big Four, national, and regional public accounting firms and industry. The department is actively engaged with the profession and works closely with its Advisory Council.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate and / or graduate courses in accounting. The faculty member is expected to provide an outstanding educational experience to students through classroom teaching, mentorship, and student activities outside the classroom. Duties include outstanding teaching, scholarly research, and service for the Department, University, profession, and broader community. The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes on the main campus in Vermillion, online, and occasionally in Sioux Falls, SD.
Minimum Qualifications A Masters in Accounting or related field, or a CPA is required. Professional experience is also preferred. Additionally, candidates must have a record of or potential for contribution to the scholarship of accounting. Other requirements are proficiency in oral and written communication, and enthusiasm for engagement and service.
Preferred Qualifications Degrees from AACSB-International accredited business school are preferred. Candidates with work experience are preferred.
