The University of South Dakota’s International Office is seeking applicants for the position of International Student Advisor. The Advisor performs the duties of a Designated School Official (DSO). They are responsible for advising USD’s approximately 250 F-1 students about maintaining non-immigrant status in the US, and assisting students with immigration, visa, financial, orientation, academic, cross-cultural, and personal adjustment matters.
As a member of a an office of six professionals, this position takes the lead in the development, implementation, and presentation of key cultural integration initiatives to ensure a positive living and learning experience, including orientation programs, off-campus educational programs, and other activities for international students. They will also serve as the International Office liaison to the Global Living Learning Community, teach an undergraduate, one-credit, first-year experience course, and assist with the design of and updates to handouts, forms, presentations, and the International Student Services webpages.
The candidate must have the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
Candidates will have at minimum a Bachelor’s degree and 1 years of experience in college student programming or advising
Prefer candidates with 2 years of experience or a master’s degree.
Demonstrated ability to efficiently complete detail-orientated work with a high degree of accuracy
1 years of experience working or living in an international or multi-cultural setting
Teaching experience (broadly defined)
Experience using social media to support programming and training
Excellent written and oral communication skills (English).
Must be able to hold a passport / travel internationally.
