Oversees CustodialServices & Refuse Collection Department including quality control, customerservice, budget preparation, compliance with codes (OSHA, EPA), and policycreation. Manages cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of million sq.ft. campus facilities. Coordinates staff for university events, ensuring venuereadiness, event services, and pre and post clean-up for major university-wideand sports events, camps, conferences, and ceremonies. Provides leadership andtraining to supervisors and staff in maintaining high standards of custodialand refuse collection programs. Essential personnel for storm duty andemergencies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Actively schedules staff / contractors and makes staffing plans for custodial maintenance and refuse removal activities for up to five shifts covering academic and administrative buildings and certain other auxiliary and athletic facilities. This work sometimes requires working nights and weekends for athletic facilities. Schedules, coordinates, and supervises the work of supplemental workers through temp agencies as needed. Schedules, coordinates and supervises work with contractors to perform carpet cleaning, water remediation, and maintenance of tile and terrazzo flooring.
- This position requires working nights and weekends for athletic, departmental and University-wide campus events, which includes scheduling, planning, and executing successful venue preparations, event services, clean-ups and refuse removal for D1 football games, basketball games, baseball games, camps, conferences, commencement ceremonies and other events as requested. Orders supplies and purchases equipment within state contract guidelines.
- This role is considered an essential personnel position, and requires storm preparation, water remediation and clean-up during and after severe weather events and university closures. Serves as duty officer in rotation to respond to maintenance emergencies of all types after regular working hours on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Screens and interviews applicants and complete associated hiring processes and paperwork training for new staff. Creates and executes an orientation and training program for new staff. Continually train, appraise, test, and implement new cleaning techniques and staffing methods to enhance customer service and efficiency of operation. Inspects and corrects time sheets and overtime records to ensure accurate payroll processing and application of charges for services rendered work order processing system. Tracks attendance, reviews time-off requests, records occurrences, and enforces attendance policies.
- Performs quality control inspections of responsible buildings and reviews findings with appropriate supervisors. Develops studies and reports for improving customer services, reducing operating costs and developing programs. Serves as duty officer in rotation to respond to maintenance emergencies of all types after regular working hours on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Performs vital services normally provided by classified employees during work stoppages. Manages and coordinates services required for special projects and events. Assures compliance and enforcement with established budgets and justifies opportunities for adjustments.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in a timely, fair, and objective manner. Direct personnel in resolving routine custodial and refuse collection problems. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, resolving problems, and enhancing customer relations.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Personnel Administration, Business,or Environmental Sciences or a related field, 5-7 years of custodialsupervisory experience directing a large service-related workforce orequivalent combination of education and experience is required. Valid Driver’sLicense and the ability to obtain a driver’s clearance to operate universityvehicles. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with APPA (Association of Physical PlantAdministrators) cleaning levels, and CEFP certified. Three to five years’experience and / or formalized training in commercial carpet cleaning andbuffing, stripping / waxing, and auto scrubbing finished and unfinished tiles, CVT,and terrazzo floors. Experience with a comparable refuse collection program andwith training and / or leading refuse team.
