Job Details :

The Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG) is an Organized Research Unit and interdisciplinary center for research and education with an emphasis on industrial relevance. The center is located within and works closely with the Chandra Family Department of Electrical Computer Engineering (Texas ECE), a top-ranked program and the largest department in the Cockrell School of Engineering. We're looking for a service-minded problem-solver to join our administrative team!

WNCG is home to more than 200 graduate students and 28 faculty. Our mission is to create a collaborative environment that supports research and provides highly relevant education and opportunities. We promote technical innovation, imagination, and entrepreneurship in wireless networking, communications, and data sciences.

This position is eligible for a hybrid Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA) (on-campus and remote work). FWA arrangements are subject to manager approval and may shift due to changes in business needs.

Purpose :

Provide human resources support, employment management, and travel reimbursement processing for the Wireless Networking and Communications Group, a large, high-functioning, multi-million-dollar research center.

Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate high-volume, complex center human resources support throughout personnel life cycle. Engage with diverse stakeholders and exercise regular problem-solving, providing appropriate counsel and resources. Manage center Workday processes. Support center requests related to employment, collaborating with appropriate offices. Assist with screening administrative team applicants and scheduling interviews. Provide backup and surge support for tuition bill payments, costing allocations, and faculty summer salary as needed. Contribute to regular maintenance of center rosters and administrative guides.
  • Collaborate with and support ECE department, Cockrell School of Engineering, Graduate School, HRSC, Texas Global, and related offices for Workday and human resource projects and troubleshooting. Function as center expert on HR policies delivering center human resource communication as needed. Attend relevant training to maintain knowledge.
  • Provide requested supporting documents for visa extensions, travel requirements, and related requests. Collaborate with Texas Global on USCiS submissions for graduate students, research staff, and visiting researchers. Manage center work authorizations and employment verification, exercising diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • Facilitate center travel reimbursements and function as center travel policy expert. Guide center members on university procedures based on funding type, location, appointment, and visa status. Assist center members with conference registrations and centrally billed travel. Coordinate center event travel and lodging. Attend relevant training to maintain knowledge.
  • Provide support for center events. Collaborate with team to optimize fundamental processes. Participate in regular team meetings and attend relevant training. Maintain various task logs. Perform special projects as needed.
  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant human resources experience.
  • At least two years working in a public-facing customer service role.
  • Demonstrated resiliency and integrity working within a demanding environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks in dynamic circumstances without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines while working independently and / or as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability of excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
  • Professional demeanor and regular, punctual attendance.
  • Solid knowledge of office productivity tools, such as Mac OSX and Microsoft Office.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience providing training or coaching.
  • Experience working in higher education, particularly in STEM or with a significant research operation.
  • Experience working with faculty and graduate students.
  • Experience with Workday HCM and USCIS processes.
  • Experience with sponsored project post-award management.
  • Being adaptable, flexible, and having a positive comportment.
  • Salary Range :

    59,000 depending on qualifications

    Employment Eligibility :

    Retirement Plan Eligibility :

    The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
