The Department of History at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Instruction to begin Fall of academic year 2025-26. We seek a historian with an interest in Public History who will teach two courses per semester and also serve as the Editor for the History Department's highly successful Public History magazine, Not Even Past. This is a two-year position that may be renewable for a third year contingent on satisfactory performance.
Duties include :
- Teaching 2 courses each long semester in Public History and areas of the candidate's expertise.
- Managing all aspects of the Not Even Past publication process.
- Working with authors and soliciting new articles.
- Preparing a monthly newsletter.
- Supervising a Graduate Research Assistant Associate Editor.
- Fundraising or grant-writing for the magazine.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position funding is subject to budget availability.

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in History or related fields by 1 August 2025 and must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to Public History. Preferred qualifications include experience in writing and editing for the public, teaching experience, and experience with grant applications and / or fundraising.
