Position Information

Hiring Department: College of Education

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: $65,000 annually

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code

  • 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver’s license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.

Purpose of Position

Directs, coordinates, implements, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of projects within area of assigned responsibility.

Essential Functions

Comprehends, complies, and executes organization policies and procedures in compliance with university, state and federal rules and regulations.

As part of UTEP’s holistic and integrated advising model, the Director is responsible for leading and implementing strategies and goals that support student success, persistence and degree completion.

Coordinates assessment of advising policies and processes; analyzes academic data, advising and student success metrics, and trends or barriers to student persistence to develop strategies for improvement.

Evaluate and continuously advising workflows and tolls including integration of appropriate technology to enhance advising processes and the student experience.

Manage daily and organizational operations of the advising office including scheduling, resource allocation, and staff development.

Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and mentoring a team of professional advisors, fostering a positive and productive work environment; promote best practices in advising to ensure positive experiences and holistic support for students through graduation.

Coordinates with campus advising leaders and enrollment services to facilitate positive, seamless advising at freshman and transfer orientations; mitigate barriers to course enrollment.

Collaborate with advisors to review and certify graduation clearance process every semester ensuring accuracy and integrity of official college graduation list submission.

Maintain knowledge of institutional policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, academic policies, degree requirements, and curriculum updates.

Coordinate the logistics and activities for Educator Preparation Program (EPP) workshops to ensure that students pursuing teacher certification are supported throughout their academic journey.

Analyze academic trends and student data to identify areas for improvement and design initiatives to enhance academic success and retention.

Collaborate on the development of new academic programs, policies, and services that promote student engagement and achievement.

Establish assessment strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of advising services, including collecting feedback from students, advisors, and faculty.

Use data to make informed decisions and reports to Associate Dean/Assistant Dean about advising outcomes, trends, and recommendations for future initiatives.

Represent advising in various committees, professional trainings, industry conferences, and conventions.

Reviews and approves documentation relating to projects or events and needs specific to assigned area(s).

Understands department’s role in accomplishing the University’s mission.

Compiles and submits reports as required by management, state, local, and federal regulatory agencies.

Acts as liaison between department and internal or external customers.

Facilitate the preparation and submission of accreditation report: Accountability System for Educator Preparation (ASEP), and documentation for Texas Education Agency (TEA)/State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC).

Stay informed about updates to ASEP guidelines and accreditation requirements, ensuring the program remains in compliance with current educational policies and practices.

Track and analyze program data to ensure the program’s performance aligns with ASEP’s accountability indicators, such as teacher effectiveness, certification exam pass rates, and teaching job placement.

Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to program performance, including key accountability indicators for ASEP.

Prepare and submit detailed accreditation reports, ensuring that data is accurate, complete, and aligned with ASEP guidelines.

Monitor and track progress toward meeting ASEP’s performance targets, ensuring timely updates and adjustments as needed.

Support the college in maintaining institutional accreditation status and stay current with accreditation requirements and ensure compliance with TEA/SBEC.

Collaborate with Associate Dean/Assistant Dean/Certification Officer and faculty to develop and maintain educator preparation program policies, best practices, and modification ensuring compliance with TEA/SBEC accreditation standards.

Develop and maintain an accreditation timeline, ensuring deadlines are met and all documentation is accurate and complete.

Maintain advanced working knowledge of institutional and programmatic accreditation guidelines, policies, and requirements through

continuous professional development conferences and other available resources.

Collaborate with colleges to provide support of programmatic accreditation efforts to ensure TEA/SBEC alignment and Educator Preparation Program effectiveness.

Successfully utilizes all Microsoft Office software and institutional software systems including the student information system and online scheduling platform.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

and

Experience: Five years of related experience and/or training in the essential duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Some travelling is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree and related experience in data literacy and analysis, including the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to accreditation indicators/standards.
