Position Information

Hiring Department: University Career Center

Posting End Date: Open until filled. This posting may close once a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.

Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code

  • 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. A valid driver’s license issued by the State where the applicant resides and insurability as defined in UTS 157 may be required to perform the position's essential functions.

Purpose of Position

Under minimal supervision and with limited latitude for the use of independent judgment, manages program related objectives and initiatives, keeps official records, and executes administrative policies determined by or in conjunction with other officials. This position supports and coordinates all aspects of career services for BBA and MBA students in the Woody L. Hunt College of Business. Maintains a solid understanding of the needs of the UTEP student demographic. Based in the College of Business, this position serves as the primary resource for business student career development and takes the lead in creating and strengthening relationships with existing and potential business employers.

Essential Functions

Researches local, regional, and national corporate environment and corporate partners of the Woody L. Hunt College of Business in order to understand the demand for BBA and MBA talent and to identify areas of opportunity for outreach to current and potential corporate partner Develops and leads employer outreach efforts, including cultivating new relationships and strengthening existing partnerships to increase internships and full-time employment opportunities for students and graduates. Oversees assigned program(s) and is responsible for insuring that all assigned student and employer activities and resources are properly coordinated; coordinates accordingly to analyze areas, satisfy planning needs, and document program effectiveness and compliance with appropriate guidelines; works to remove barriers that impede continuous improvement.

Undertakes analysis of multiple data points to develop a student engagement approach.

Creates a strategic communication/marketing plan for the college’s career development goals.

Advises students on issues related to career planning, internships, professional development, and job search.

Facilitates career-related workshops and events, to include the coordination of University Career Center job fairs.

Collaborates with University Career Center staff on employers recruiting on the UTEP campus.

Facilitates collaboration between UTEP faculty, staff and business leaders to enhance career preparation and business education.

Works closely with College of Business faculty, program directors, and managers to identify and market student talent to corporate partners.

Delivers information sessions and presentations to promote services and events.

Facilitates employer visits to College of Business with close coordination and integration with the University Career Center.

Maintains knowledge of College of Business curriculum and accreditation guidelines as well as current trends, issues and technology in the field of career development.

Prepares reports on student engagement levels, student learning/assessment, employer needs to support accreditation efforts for the college.

Tracks student and employer engagement efforts using the University Career Center tracking database, Handshake.

Attends administrative meetings and assist with program events coordinated by the University Career Center and College of Business, as applicable.

Works cooperatively with and serve as a resource to Peer Career Advisor.

Works closely with College of Business professional student organizations to offer professional development resources.

Utilizes metrics to assess effectiveness in meeting Career Center and College of Business goals and objectives.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university within area of assigned responsibility.

Valid Texas driver’s license and ability to drive to local meetings and events. Travel required.
