The University of Texas at El Paso seeks a highly qualified Research Assistant Professor to join its College of Health Sciences (CHS). The faculty member will have the opportunity to be appointed in the Department(s) of Kinesiology, Public Health Sciences, or Social Work depending on the candidate's background and preference.

In this role, the faculty member will collaborate with current researchers in diabetes and metabolic diseases, leading initiatives addressing health inequities. Institutional funding will support the position for up to three years, with the expectation that external funding is secured by the fourth year to sustain their salary and research program.

The faculty member will be expected to collaborate closely with existing researchers within CHS who conduct multicultural and binational research. We are looking for a candidate to leverage their expertise to elevate the research portfolio of the college. This will involve working with interdisciplinary teams, harnessing partnerships with community stakeholders, and pursuing external funding opportunities. By leveraging the collective knowledge and resources within CHS, the faculty member will drive innovation and excellence in research, ultimately advancing our understanding of diabetes and metabolic disorders and their practical applications for improving health outcomes in underserved communities.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of publications, and evidence of engaging in impactful research. They will bring a commitment to addressing health disparities and promoting health equity, aligning with CHS's mission to serve as a catalyst for positive change in our region and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration within the CHS and across campus in diabetes and metabolic disorders research relevant to the U.S.-Mexico border region.
  • Secure external funding by year four to support their salary and research program.

Job Requirements

  • PhD or other doctoral degree in a field related to health research.
  • Expertise in metabolic disorders, diabetes, or related behavior/condition demonstrated by a strong record of publications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral training experience demonstrating advanced research preparation.
  • Secured or demonstrated effort in securing extramural research funding;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstration of commitment to translational, implementation and/or community-based research among health disparate populations.
