The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Medicine seeks an experienced and dedicated Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon to join our growing academic medical center. This is a full-time position with an open academic rank, offering opportunities for clinical practice, research, and teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to provide high-quality patient care, educate the next generation of medical professionals, and advance the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive plastic and reconstructive surgical care, with a focus on supporting the needs of the general surgery, trauma, and surgical oncology services.
- Perform breast reconstruction and other reconstructive procedures as part of the surgical oncology service.
- Develop and maintain an outpatient presence at a new ambulatory surgery center, supporting the clinical mission of UTRGV.
- Actively participate in the education and training of medical students and residents, including supervising surgical procedures and leading didactic sessions.
- Engage in scholarly activity, including clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and academic publications.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and contribute to the growth of the surgical services program.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and/or General Surgery. Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical License. Demonstration of strong commitment to teaching and mentoring medical students and residents. The successful candidate should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to patient care.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Academic experience and evidence of scholarly activity are preferred but not required. Fellowship training in plastic and reconstructive surgery is highly desirable.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
