Scope of Job
To direct, administer and coordinate the strategic business operations of the UTRGV Diabetes Center of Excellence (DCE) and to provide leadership directing the overall operations, finance, marketing, and administration of the center. Responsibilities include all aspects of the DCE patient experience, patient care, clinical operations, education, research, customer service, finance, staffing, quality outcome management, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Description of Duties
- Develops, launches, and directs all operational components of the DCE and its operations.
- Establishes strategic plans and guides their implementation.
- Partners with senior leadership to understand complex operational issues and develop and implement appropriate solutions.
- Develops and maintains collegial and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across the center, institution, and community to positively impact center operations and patient care outcomes.
- Represents the institution to major external authorities and constituents.
- Oversees the ongoing collaboration with relevant stakeholders for new and expanding operations of all ambulatory operations and establishes best practices and implements continuous improvement processes for the center.
- Leads all functional activities in cooperation with the Division Heads, Deans, Department Chairs, and other specialty and ancillary services, including the specialties of endocrinology, podiatric medicine, diabetology, social work, behavioral health, pharmacology, nutrition education, epidemiology, infectious disease, wound care, radiology, and vascular surgery.
- Ensures operational compliance with all regulatory agencies as they pertain to operations and patient care.
- Responsible for ensuring continuous quality improvement as it relates to operations and patient care, including the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate the integration of clinical and translational research in the DCE.
- Enhance community health through outreach programs that educate and empower the community.
- Responsible for developing long-range operational plans and related financial plans for services, performing appropriate analyses, and recommending adjustments where appropriate.
- Directs move-in and start-up of all elements of DCE operations. Initiates and completes special projects and studies within designated timelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Applicant must have an advanced degree in business, healthcare, or related degree.
Preferred Education
Significant experience may substitute for this requirement.

Required Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in management of multispecialty, ambulatory or outpatient clinics, surgical center, or other health or research-related enterprise.

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment.
