Job Description
Job Summary:
The Associate AD for Marketing and Community Engagement is the principal leader responsible for spearheading the comprehensive marketing strategy for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. In this pivotal role, the position will exercise leadership and strategic decision-making to elevate the Tulsa brand, enhance fan experiences, drive revenue growth, and extend our outreach into the Tulsa community. The position will serve as the head of our marketing unit, leading all efforts and managing a dynamic team to ensure a unified, innovative approach to promoting our marquee sports programs.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
Strategic Leadership
- Own the development and execution of forward-thinking marketing plans for Football and Men’s Basketball, ensuring that all initiatives align with the overall vision and goals of the athletics department.
- Serve as the definitive leader of the marketing unit, making independent decisions and setting priorities to maximize brand impact and fan engagement.
Team Management and Oversight
- Directly supervise the Director of Fan Experience and Game Presentation, the Director of Video Productions, and associated graduate assistants and internship positions.
- Oversee and guide a team of students from our Pathways to Sports Academy program, fostering their professional growth and aligning their contributions with department objectives.
- Lead and empower a cross-functional internal fan experience committee—comprising experts in content, marketing, spirit, band, video, and communications—to drive cohesive, game-to-game and seasonal promotional strategies.
Comprehensive Marketing Execution
- Design and implement innovative promotional plans that drive attendance and elevate the fan experience at events.
- Oversee all aspects of advertising strategies—including paid, trade, and digital campaigns—ensuring they are strategically aligned with our brand and revenue goals.
- Develop and execute on-campus marketing initiatives to boost student engagement and attendance at all athletic events.
- Collaborate with the Director of Ticket Sales to orchestrate promotional nights that maximize attendance and enhance the gameday experience.
- Lead all staff that will execute promotional themes on a game to game and seasonal basis, consistently elevating the overall fan experience.
External Relations and Community Engagement
- Craft and lead a comprehensive outreach strategy aimed at increasing brand awareness throughout the Tulsa community through high-profile partnerships and targeted programming.
- Cultivate and leverage relationships with campus partners and community stakeholders to identify and execute mutually beneficial engagement opportunities.
- Advise and coordinate with the MMR team on promotional elements that enhance the fan experience and drive gameday excellence.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Knowledge of Athletic Marketing, Content (social and digital media), and Video Services
- Outstanding editing, writing and verbal skills
- Organizational skills and great attention to detail
Equivalent Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred, preferably in marketing, sports administration or related field
- Must have at least 5 to 7 years of experience or more in athletic marketing experience
