Student Nurse LNA Extern Program Overview
This program is designed for UVM nursing students who have completed their sophomore year. Through a mentoring relationship with licensed nurse assistants, student nurse LNA externs will provide direct patient care under the LNA scope of practice.
Program Details
- Duration: 8 weeks (May 12 - August 5)
As per diem/temporary employees, participants will have some scheduling flexibility. However, it is required that they be available for the duration of the program and designated weekly hours, amounting to full-time work (36 hours). Hours will be based on unit, with possible nights and weekends.
Program Components
- Nurse Assistant Trainee Course (first 3 weeks): Daytime classes and clinical time
- Mandatory In-Person Education Events:
- State LNA licensing exam
- Professional development opportunities
Selection Process
Interviews will take place in April. Selected participants will be assigned a host unit prior to the program's start.
