What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Research Associate position at The Unversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill?
The Thaxton lab in the Cancer Immunotherapy Program at Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a postdoctoral fellow to join our vibrant team. We are seeking a candidate with expertise in immunology, metabolism, or microscopy. Our group takes a unique approach to improving immunotherapies for cancer patients through designing therapeutic strategies that target the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). We study how the ER shapes immune cell function, metabolism, and programming in the stress of solid tumors to design better T cell-based immunotherapies such as CAR T cell and checkpoints. We partner with clinicians to understand how our findings impact tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) from cancer patients to ensure that our research directly translates to human health (www.thaxtonimmuno.com).
The research environment is cooperative and exciting and we are proximal to multiple other high impact clinical research groups that are defining the future of cancer care. Under guidance from the principal investigator, in collaboration physicians, and in cooperation with multiple laboratory members and students, the successful applicant will drive multiple high impact research projects with ample potential for individual professional growth. The successful applicant must be enthusiastic and willing to take on innovative experiments to study human and mouse tumor immunity in order to design strategies that induce productive immunity in cancers.
Minimum requirements are a PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or a similar discipline. Minimum relevant experience includes completion of BS or BA and a PhD degree.
