Job Description:
We are a family-owned business in Midtown Detroit offering a range of business services, including custom printing, shipping, packing, and more. We are looking for a Part-Time Printer to join our team. This entry-level role requires someone who is passionate about printing, design, and customer service. The ideal candidate will have experience with large-format printers, design software, and commercial printing materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate Wide-Format Printers: Handle printing tasks for banners, posters, yard signs, decals, and other custom products.
- Design and Editing: Use Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop) or other relevant design software to facilitate design creation and editing.
- Manage Printing Materials: Work with various materials such as paper, vinyl, foam core, coroplast, and other commercial printing substrates.
- Quality Control: Ensure high-quality prints by checking color accuracy, resolution, and material alignment.
- Cost Control: Drive low levels of material and time waste by avoiding printing and communication errors.
- Customer Interaction: Provide excellent customer service when working with clients to fulfill printing needs, deliver accurate pricing quotes, turnaround estimates and offer advice on materials and design.
- Maintain Equipment: Assist with regular maintenance of printing equipment and notify management of any technical issues or necessary repairs.
- Team Collaboration: Work alongside other team members to meet deadlines and ensure smooth workflow in the print shop. Train other associates on basic copier functions and maintenance processes.
- General Customer Service: This role will also be trained in the basic transactional services offered at our location and be expected, time permitting, to assist in regular customer needs such as package returns and shipping.
Qualifications:
- Experience operating wide-format printers and basic printing equipment.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) or other graphic design software.
- Basic understanding of commercial printing materials (vinyl, foam core, paper, coroplast, etc.) and inks.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to engage with clients effectively.
- Basic knowledge of color management and printing processes.
- Attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
- Previous experience in a print shop, copy center, or similar environment is a plus but not required.
Additional Skills (Optional but Preferred):
- Knowledge of color calibration and management for print consistency.
- Experience with RIP (Raster Image Processor) software for wide-format printing.
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on printing equipment.
- Understanding of large-scale production workflow and project management.
Hours
- Weekdays 5-6 hr per day shifts; with some flexibility
- Weekend availability driven by print job work load
Hourly Rate / Salary Estimate
- Entry-Level (with some experience): $18 - $20 per hour. Paid bi-weekly.
- Bonus/Perks: Commissions on wide format printing net profits paid monthly quarterly bonuses when printing profit targets are attained
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 25 – 35 per week
