The Packaging Engineer will have responsibilities to research, design and specify appropriately engineered packaging solutions and packaging processes for the company’s high mix of customized light fixtures that are shipped all around the globe. Packaging that ensures efficient and reliable processes, safe arrival of product and brand consistency is critical. This role would work within the Continuous Improvement Department to ensure proper design and execution of all company product packaging for new and existing products.

The Packaging Engineer will have responsibilities to research, design and specify appropriately engineered packaging solutions and packaging processes for the company’s high mix of customized light fixtures that are shipped all around the globe. Packaging that ensures efficient and reliable processes, safe arrival of product and brand consistency is critical. This role would work within the Continuous Improvement Department to ensure proper design and execution of all company product packaging for new and existing products.
A Day in the Life:
- Maintain thorough understanding of the company’s products and the packaging challenges associated with each. Involved from concept through launch of new product.
- Design & develop packaging and select materials for packaging based on durability, cost effectiveness, and company image to ensure product integrity under varying shipping and storage conditions, including work with packaging vendors when required.
- Determine and coordinate physical testing to ensure product and package integrity for manufacturing through end users.
- Provide expertise in the resolution of packaging related issues both during manufacturing and in the field, to include proactive audits in shipping to understand root cause of failures and identify improvement opportunities.
- Responsible for content creation of packaging instructions and communication of packing methods to ensure standardization and product integrity.
- Assist production management team in coordinating and conducting training for production teams to ensure proper techniques are understood and utilized.
- Stay current on all new packaging processes and materials to ensure that the company maintains a continuously improving packaging operation.
- Act as the primary internal resource on all issues or questions regarding packaging. Participates and advises in decisions involving equipment, package design, cost savings, and source reduction.
- Participates in process improvement projects or activities as assigned by the Continuous Improvement Manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Packaging, or Business preferred. An unrelated bachelor’s degree with relevant work experience will also be considered.
- A minimum of 2 years of Packaging Engineering experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with Adobe applications.
- Proficiency in Solidworks and Composer is a plus.
- You are mechanically inclined or at least have an interest in learning various production and manufacturing processes.
- You are highly organized and a star at multi-tasking while managing multiple projects at once. Nothing falls through the cracks on your watch.
