Position Overview:
We are seeking an Automation and Controls Specialist to join a dynamic and growing chemical manufacturing company in Eastern North Carolina. This hands-on role will play a critical part in ensuring safe, efficient, and optimized operations across a variety of plant functions through design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems.
This position requires a solid understanding of chemical plant operations, as well as strong technical and problem-solving skills in industrial automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and oversee the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical instruments and control equipment across multiple plant locations.
- Assist in programming and making modifications for computer control systems, including Honeywell, Rockwell, and drive systems.
- Write specifications for the selection of new instrumentation and determine necessary spare part stock levels.
- Train operations and maintenance personnel in the use and upkeep of computer-controlled instrumentation systems.
- Collaborate with plant teams to investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Act as a technical advisor and/or team member supporting chemical plant operations and maintenance I/E teams.
- Conduct routine inspections of projects, plants, and equipment to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
- Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 2–5 years of instrumentation and controls experience, ideally in a chemical or process plant setting.
- Hands-on experience in design, installation, and startup of electrical systems and instrumentation/controls interface.
- Working knowledge of Wonderware, Honeywell, Rockwell, PLCs, and control system software.
- Familiarity with electrical distribution systems, motors, IR scanning, HVAC systems, and general electronics.
- Strong understanding of test procedures and diagnostic tools used in an industrial environment.
- Prior attendance at vendor or institutional training programs is a plus.
