Overview

The Cancer Center of Kansas (CCK) is seeking a full-time, on-site Assistant Director of Nursing to join our team in our Wichita, KS offices. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM with no major holidays, no on-call and no weekends.

What does this position entail?

The Assistant Director of Nursing works closely with the Director of Nursing and other members of leadership to manage the nursing team through identifying nursing team training needs, collaborating on interdisciplinary projects, hiring and training staff, and conducting nursing team evaluations. The role will ensure support and adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Clinical oversight which includes observation and feedback on the clinical operations for all nursing activities and teams.
  • Helps maintain, through collaboration with HR, all nursing personnel files.
  • Ensures all nursing licensing and certification criteria are met and remain active.
  • Assists with the review and revision of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Assists with nursing team meetings as assigned by DON.
  • Ensures adequate staffing/FTEs for assigned clinics in collaboration with other members of leadership.
  • Participates in the interviewing and recruiting of nursing personnel.
  • Performs tasks assigned to staff nurses as necessary.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of applicable labor laws and schedules and coordinates employee staffing including vacations, sick leave and overtime in collaboration with HR.
  • Ensures nursing operations are consistent with organizational objectives, regulatory standards and the standards of care.
  • Monitors and evaluates patient satisfaction and quality assurance measures.
  • Monitors the need for and helps implement nursing staff development and coordinates with the Nursing Operations Liaison and or Nursing Education Coordinator as needed.
  • Assists with annual performance evaluations and quarterly check-ins for nursing staff.
  • Serves as a mentor/preceptor and provides day to day guidance to less experienced
  • May assist in onboarding of new nurses.
  • Conducts administrative duties necessary to set up course and documents completion (where applicable).
  • Attends required, applicable meetings.
  • Remains current on all compliance requirements.
  • Ensures all applicable policies and procedures of the company and Network are followed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following qualifications:

Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

  • Education/Training /Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN or MSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Minimum 5 years actively practicing as a registered nurse.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Nursing experience in oncology setting, preferred.
