Illinois CancerCare is seeking a temporary New Patient Intake Specialist to work full-time for approximately 3 months at the Peoria clinic. The New Patient Intake Specialist is primarily responsible for providing a smooth process for new patients. This position obtains the referral, verifies the insurance, obtains authorizations, benefit verifications and pre-registers the patient. The New Patient Intake Specialist also communicates pertinent information to referring providers and internal staff as necessary.
Hiring Range: $15.00 - $21.00 per hour
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, etc. As of the date of this posting, this temporary position is not eligible for benefits.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
High School graduate or GED and three to five (3-5) years of relevant experience in a clinical medical office.

Responsibilities
- Obtain referral (phone or fax) from referring or primary care physician offices or ILCC hospital team.
- Verify insurance coverage, demographic, and clinical information.
- Send referral to New Patient (NPT) scheduling with intake process completed.
- Receive verified NPT Appt and send NPT packet electronically by AristaMD or by mail.
- Obtain benefit verification and add to the billing system.
- Obtain payer authorization from primary care physician for new patients & existing patients.
- Identify indigent patients and/or potential reimbursement issues and communicate to financial counselors and payer relations.
- Pre-register the new patient prior to the appointment.
- Perform all other duties as requested or required.
- Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires sitting at desk for extensive periods of time.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
- Safety policies and good health practices are to be understood and observed.
- Work is performed in an office environment with occasional contact with staff and patients.
- Work may be repetitious, and in a high-stress environment.
- Contact may involve dealing with angry and/or upset people.
