Job Title: Automation Engineer (Active TS Clearance Required)
Location: Hybrid - Hanover, MD
Salary Range: $120,000 - $165,000
Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to support agile software development initiatives aimed at modernizing mission-critical systems. This role involves implementing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing automated solutions to enhance system efficiency and scalability. A key focus will be integrating and automating Software Defined Network (SDN) configurations across a complex infrastructure of network devices, switches, and servers. The ideal candidate will have strong scripting and automation skills, experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and the ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving technical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and support agile software development efforts for system modernization.
- Integrate and automate SDN configurations across network devices, switches, and servers.
- Maintain and optimize automated deployment, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) environments.
- Utilize automation tools such as Ansible Tower, Nagios, and Single Pane of Glass (SPOG) for system management.
- Develop and maintain build, deployment, and release automation processes.
- Manage and utilize git-based version control systems (GitLab or GitHub).
- Document technical processes, including concept papers, progress reports, user stories, epics, and training materials.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while providing guidance to junior engineers as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell for automation.
- Hands-on experience with automation tools (Ansible Tower, Nagios, SPOG).
- Strong proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform.
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Knowledge of automated server and network configurations in large-scale deployment environments.
- Proficiency in git-based version control systems such as GitLab or GitHub.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, evolving environment with changing business and technology requirements.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related experience, or
- Master’s degree with 3 years of related experience.
- Relevant certifications or additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Security Clearance:
- Active Top Secret (TS) Clearance required with the ability to obtain SCI.
Work Requirements:
- Hybrid, but must be available for on-site work in Hanover, MD.
