We offer a 4 day, 32 hour work week on site with a professional and friendly work environment. We are a small private club in Montecito (70 employees) seeking an experienced Controller to join our 2 person accounting department. Salary is dependent on experience.
Job Summary:
As Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the company, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations. Your expertise in financial management and analysis will be crucial in providing strategic guidance to the organization. Human Resource experience is required. The position start date is May 10, 2025.
Responsibilities:
Manage all general financial activities of the club including daily accounting operations, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions
- Post monthly journal entries and prepare balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare month-end reporting package including Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Projection
- Supervise accounting staff
- Assess internal controls at the club and ensure consistent application of accounting policies and procedures
- Provide financial support and analysis to General Manager and department heads
- Develop, analyze and interpret statistical and accounting information
- Monitor industry trends for private club and accounting industry changes
- Oversee treasury functions including monitoring cash flow of operating accounts and maintaining proper reserve levels, overseeing investment accounts
- Evaluate needs for procurement of funds, investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations
- Prepare annual budgets and capital expenditure plans
- Update monthly financial forecasts and maintain business activity reports
- Oversee Information Technology of the club including hardware, software and system maintenance
- Maintain fixed asset software and track acquisitions and disposals
- Enforce monthly counts of Kitchen, Bar, Greens and Golf inventory and verify accuracy
- Attend monthly Finance committee meetings and present financial results; take minutes
- Coordinate annual external audit of club and pension plan
- Assist external accountants with preparation of annual tax returns for the club and pension plan
- File monthly and quarterly sales tax returns
- Act as Trustee for employee 401k retirement plan
- Ensure that all licenses, permits and insurance policies are current and in compliance with local, state and federal laws
- Develop and maintain relationships with banking institutions, insurance groups, and benefit providers to facilitate financial activities Provide due diligence on decisions regarding capital acquisitions, operating leases, bank loans, financing activities and renovation projects
- Administer member assessment billings including payment options and amortization schedules
- Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies, and current accounting standards; Maintain all insurance policies and prepare renewal documents

- Willingness to work a flexible schedule with tight deadlines; especially first two weeks of each month to prepare financials and close the books
- Any other duties that may apply or that are assigned; assist with kitchen inventory count; updating cost sheets for Food & Beverage inventories and Greens inventory
- Follow all procedure manuals and safety; handle work comp claims and functions

Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
