Job Title: French Teacher (7-12)
Job Product: Student understanding of French that furthers the development of character and intellect.
General Purpose: The French teacher is responsible for developing students’ academic excellence and virtue by creating a positive culture of inquiry and learning and providing students with challenging and meaningful learning activities and experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans curriculum and instruction.
- Delivers effective instruction.
- Manages classroom climate and operation.
- Promotes achievement.
- Meets professional responsibilities.
Demonstrates subject matter knowledge:
- Spoken and written command of a standard version of the French language (i.e., used by a formally educated speaker of the language).
- Knowledge of culturally and historically significant texts, literary traditions, periods, and genres, and authors associated with France and the Francophone world at large.
- Characteristics of pedagogy in French literacy.
- Similarities and differences between French and English.
- Theories of, and differences between, first and second language acquisition.
- Knowledge of the other arts (historical traditions, genres, and major artists) associated with la Francophonie.
- Knowledge of contemporary political, social, and artistic features of Francophonie.
- Knowledge of the political, social, and intellectual history and propagation of French culture.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the content, central concepts, inquiry, appropriate evidence-based instructional practices, and specialized characteristics of the disciplines being taught.
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree preferred or Competitive Qualifications in French with the desire for an M.A. to facilitate participation in the CU Succeed program.
Experience:
Prior teaching experience preferred but is not required.
Salary:
$48,000 per year, based on qualifications.
