Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Controller on a full-time basis to be a key member of the accounting team. You will strike a balance between maintaining trustful relationships, managing/performing key accounting functions with staff, and serving as a backup in all accounting functions. This position will be a hands-on role, communicating, both verbal and written, to senior leadership and key accounting personnel.

Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Controller on a full-time basis to be a key member of the accounting team. You will strike a balance between maintaining trustful relationships, managing/performing key accounting functions with staff, and serving as a backup in all accounting functions. This position will be a hands-on role, communicating, both verbal and written, to senior leadership and key accounting personnel.
Core Responsibilities
- Managing the company’s general ledger/trial balance to ensure reconciliations on all accounts are performed timely and accurately in accordance with GAAP.
- Learn the company’s accounting software and become proficient in it, including running reports, account analysis, etc.
- Participate in the development of standards and processes for proper financial management, including following and researching proper accounting procedures/GAAP to reach financial objectives.
- Be the backup resource, on a temporary basis, for payroll, accounts payable, billing or accounts receivable should key managers in those areas not be available.
- Interact and gain the trust of VERTEX Project Managers and other VERTEX employees as an accounting liason.
- Participate in generating key performance indicators and the communication of trends to stakeholders.
- Work with the company’s external auditors in completion of annual audits
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Masters a plus
- 5-10 years professional experience in an office/professional environment
- 3 years’ experience in public accounting
- Ability to research, retrieve, prepare, and analyze data from accounting software
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles/GAAP
- Proven track record of working in a team environment with various personalities, while working alongside other team members
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively and accurately with minimal oversight
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in English
- Working knowledge of standard software packages (MS Office 365), including Adobe Acrobat, excellent excel skills, and experience working with accounting software and databases
