RESIDENT CARE AIDE/HOME HEALTH AIDE
Department: Resident Care
Job Title: Resident Care Aide/Home Health Aide
Reports to: Director of Clinical Services
Function:
A Resident Care Aide/Home Health Aide is responsible for assisting the residents in their daily living and in maintaining the social and physical environment for their comfort, safety and well-being in accordance with DOH regulations and Community standards and as directed by supervisor.
Principal Responsibilities:
· Work under the supervision of the Resident Care Director (RCD) in accordance with DOH regulations and Community standards.
· Provide residents with assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, changing bed linens, and incontinence care as needed and appropriate based on certification (HHA) if any and DOH regulations.
· Follow the resident's plan for care.
· Assist with and document medications, following accepted practices and in accordance with DOH and Community standards.
· Notify RCD when resident's medication supply is running low.
· Check in medications and notify RCD if medications are missing from order.
· Complete required documentation on all of forms provided.
· Observe the assigned residents and report any changes or questions regarding his/her condition and report any changes or questions regarding care to the Resident Care Director either directly or in Daily Log and at shift change report.
· Respond to call signals, call for emergency service if needed (911). Report incident and complete appropriate paperwork.
· Maintain confidentiality of all resident records.
· Assist with dining services.
· Encourage residents to participate in activities, assist in getting them there.
· Collect and distribute laundry.
· Attend all required in-service training.
· Follow all established fire/safety components, including participating in monthly
drills and staff fire/safety training.
· Promptly report any equipment or Community damage to supervisor.
· Report any accidents and incidents immediately.
· Participate in daily "stand-up" meetings.
· Meet customer service standards in a friendly, helpful, courteous manner, with resident satisfaction a priority.
· Provide services related to your certification.
Public Relations/Marketing:
· Participate in large social functions as necessary.
· Conduct tours for prospective residents as needed.
Other:
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Advise Resident Care Director of any obstacles in achieving responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of aNew York State Department of Health approved Resident Care Aide training program.
· Experience as a certified nursing assistant or Resident Care Aide.
· High School Diploma/GED
· Red Cross Standard First Aid training required within 60 days of employment.
Performance Characteristics:
· Knowledge of various services provided for the elderly.
· Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, community and regulatory officials (both verbally and written).
· Frequent contact with staff,residents and visitors of the Community. Considerable tact and patience required in interactions.
· Ability todemonstrate good judgment in areas of responsibility.
· Ability to managemultiple interruptions
· Must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
· Represent the Community in such a way to exhibit maximum professionalism reflecting accuracy, attention to detail, and overall competence.
· Flexibility in the work schedule, including evening and weekend hours as necessary to meet the potential resident's needs.
· Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation.
Physical Demands:
· Must be able to cope with the physical/emotional stress of the position.
· Correctable eyesight must be 20/40.
· Correctable hearing must be clear and acceptable at 5 feet.
· Able to lift up to 50 pounds, able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, pull, climb, reach, lift, and perform repetitive movements of the upper extremities.
· Moderate to heavy risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens.
· Extended periods of time are spent walking or standing (on feet).
Working Conditions:
· Normal Senior Living setting.
· Work in all areas of the residence with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies under all conditions andcircumstances.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Per diem
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
