REPORTS TO: Executive Director

DEPARTMENT: Activity Director

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

LANGUAGE: Ability to read, write and speak English

LOCATION:

POSITION SUMMARY: Maiden Park Rochester, NY

The Activities Director meets resident care and life enrichment needs and manages the

department in accordance with resident needs, and Willow Ridge Senior Living policies and procedures which models validation, encourages resident socialization, improves daily living skills, expands personal interests, increases physical activity & education, capitalizes on resident abilities, encourages brain health, and helps residents feel safe and purposeful.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field with one-year related experience and/or

training preferred OR

  • Associate degree in recreation or related field with related work experience OR
  • 3-5 years full-time experience working with adult recreation.
  • Basic knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease and related Dementia's required.
  • Experience and Knowledge in of senior living, including assisted living, Memory care, and

Enhanced Assisted Living preferred.

  • Knowledge of and/or ability to quickly master an understanding of related regulatory and

compliance requirements required.

  • Experience in recruiting, training, and managing people preferred.
  • Working knowledge of computers including Excel, Word, and MS Office.
  • Compassion for and desire to work with the elderly.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.
  • First Aid Certified.

RESPONSIBlLITIES:

  • Supervise, develop, and schedule all Activity staff to include drivers and activity assistants

according to Willow Ridge Senior Living policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Responsible for ordering and maintaining adequate Activity department supplies.
  • Responsible for moving/arranging of equipment/supplies to assure that activity areas are

ready for scheduled activity functions.

  • Ensure that activity rooms/areas are prepared for scheduled activity program.
  • Act as a liaison for all aspects related to Activities within the community.
  • Responsible for appropriate activity staffing levels needed to meet the needs of the facility

and state guidelines, to include filling in for staff during unexpected shortages.

  • Provide training and orientation to new Activity department staff members and ongoing

training to current department staff members.

  • Responsible for tracking attendance of all activity department staff and effectively

carrying out disciplinary action where appropriate and per Willow Ridge Senior Living policy.

  • Communicate to residents, families, department heads, resident care department staff,

and Executive Director as needed.

  • Work with the care department and others to promote and protect resident rights and the

psychological well-being of each resident.

  • Support the move in process with a positive attitude and image of Willow Ridge Senior Living.
  • Manages the Willow Ridge Senior Living Discovery tool (Social History and Assessment), including completing, monthly activity calendar, and all move in actions related to activities for all residents.
  • Researches, evaluates, approves, develops, and modifies community events and

programs, according to resident interests.

  • Prepares and publishes an engaging and creative monthly activity calendar which

incorporates the communities' events and programs by the 15" of the month prior (ex.

December calendar due Nov 15).

  • Manages all aspects of the activity program.
  • Engages and motivates residents resulting in program participation.
  • Responsible for tracking attendance for program participation and then document in

resident's file their program participation.

  • Contributes to community growth by participating in sales activities.
  • Engages in community public relations.
  • Assist in the development of the annual Activity operating budget.
  • Manages departmental needs and goals within department budgets.
  • Recruits, researches, and approves schedules and supervises general contractor

entertainers, volunteers, religious professionals and vendors.

  • Determine, supervise, and manage community resident transportation operation,

including scheduling of outside events and similar operational decisions.

  • May drive company vehicles from community to social and other various destinations.
  • Coordinate dining/hydration activities when applicable with the Dining Director.
  • Attend and participate in Care meetings when applicable.
  • May assist Residents with care activities (activities of daily living) per state specific and Willow Ridge Senior Living

guidelines when required during programing.

  • Establish, promote, and facilitate regularly scheduled family educational/support groups

per Willow Ridge Senior Living standards.

  • Conduct individual, and/or group, re-motivation, and reality orientation sessions to

promote the worth, self-esteem and reality level of the residents.

  • Assists and encourages residents to maintain family and community ties and works with

residents to develop new supports and interests.

  • Complete quality management reviews to ascertain if the department is meeting state

regulations and Willow Ridge Senior Living policies and follow up as needed.

  • Encourage the resident/family to participate in the development and review of activity

programing.

  • Maintain active community and professional ties with contacts.
  • Communicate and enforce policies and procedures and effectively recommend corrective

and disciplinary action to enforce such policies.

  • Assist in orienting each resident to adjust to life in the community.
  • Monitor for resident changes of condition and report to Resident Care Director.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, unsafe, hazardous conditions, and equipment immediately.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and

compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.

  • Maintains a valid driver's license for car travel as needed.
  • Attend all required in-service trainings.
  • Acquire, and maintain, an understanding of, and comply with, all Willow Ridge safety

practices, policies and procedures related to your job.

  • Participate and present in annual safety training and in services.
  • Monitor your staff's compliance with safety policies and procedures, implement corrective

actions when indicated.

  • Report any staff injury or accident in a timely fashion for your department.
  • Actively participate in employee injury/accident investigations in your department.
  • Rotate as a member of the Safety Committee.
  • Maintains a valid driver's license for car/bus travel as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as needed or requested by supervisor.

LEADERSHIP:

  • Through example, inspires and motivates performance of subordinates and promotes

honesty, trust, and respect.

  • Coach and evaluate staff performance as necessary to maintain high standards of quality

care, financial accountability, and business growth.

  • Evaluate the performance and effectively recommend changes to terms and conditions of

employment for all Activity Department staff.

  • Interview and hire all community Activity Department staff.
  • Able to be innovative to create and generate solutions and programs.
  • Uses critical thinking and sound judgement on decisions that impacts residents, associates,

and general operation of the community.

  • Support community staff in infection control procedures including the COVID-19 and blood borne pathogen exposure plan.
  • Ability to assess and understand customers' expectations, needs and circumstances.
  • Assist the Executive Director with prompt follow-up and resolution of customer service

complaints and inquiries.

  • Assist and participate in the community's orientation program and ongoing lnservice

program.

  • Participate in the developing, reviewing, and implementing of policies concerning Activity

programing and quality of life.

  • Assist the community with sales & marketing outreach activities including routine visits to

physician's, discharge planners and other referral sources.

  • Remain abreast of current State regulations and ensure compliance with regulatory

Processes.

  • Ability to speak intelligently about Willow Ridge and of assisted living programs.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and the community.
  • Rotating a manager on duty schedule with other directors.
  • Maintain flexible work schedule to be available to work evenings, nights, weekends, and

holidays as needed.

  • Availability by phone or page 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergencies.
  • Follow Willow Ridge Senior Living policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIRMENTS:

  • Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently

and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move

objects.

  • Additional physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling,

crouching, crawling, bending, twisting and generally all movement associated with

resident care.

  • Travel frequently by car or bus.
  • Must be in full compliance with all regulatory required vaccinations (including COVID-19,

MMR, etc).

OSHA CLASSIFICATIONS:

  • Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogen.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $62,500.00 per year
