DESCRIPTION:
The Villages Charter School is accepting applications for an ESE Specialist for the 2025-2026 School year. This position will be on the Middleton campus.
Applicants must complete The Villages Charter School online application. In order for the application to be complete, you must also include copies of all transcripts, a copy of the Florida Professional Certificate or “Statement of Eligibility” from the Florida Department of Education, a copy of resume, and letters of recommendation.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
To ensure compliance with ESE law, best practices, and timelines. To support ESE and general education teachers in regard to the development and implementation of students’ IEPs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The expectations include the following and other duties as assigned:
- Analyze evaluation data and formulate hypotheses and conclusions relating to learning and behavioral issues.
- Cooperatively develop appropriate interventions and strategies to assist individual students in academic growth and school adjustment.
- Conduct informal and formal observations of students as part of the evaluation process.
- Participate as a member of school educational planning teams and staffing teams to develop assistance plans for at-risk students.
- Review student records and analyze information pertinent to student learning and school adjustment needs.
- Facilitate discussions and decisions regarding eligibility for students with learning exceptionalities.
- Facilitate the discussion regarding the re-evaluation process.
- Utilize knowledge of behavioral principles to develop and assist in the implementation of specific behavioral management plans for individual students, classrooms, and schools.
- Provide training and assistance in intervention techniques and strategies designed to improve student success in the school setting.
- Facilitate manifestation determination meetings.
- Serve as an expert witness in due process hearings related to students with disabilities.
- Interpret state and federal rules, laws, and polices as they relate to identification, placement, and service provision for students with disabilities or gifted ability.
- Advise general education and ESE teachers in regard to ESE protocol and processes with fidelity.
- Utilize technology as an organization tool to keep track of, but not limited to, student consent, testing dates, and timelines.
- Other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) or higher from an accredited educational institute.
- A minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in Exceptional Student Education.
- Must hold or be eligible for certification by the State of Florida in Exceptional Student Education
- Such additional or alternative qualifications to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is quiet.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
216 days – Exempt. Benefits shall be paid consistent with the VCS policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment are those established by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of TVCS policy on evaluations of personnel.
