The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of quality care to residents. They assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, and supervising the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide healthcare and nursing services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Director of Nursing in designing, implementing, and evaluating nursing systems to ensure consistent delivery of care;
- Maintaining and promoting resident rights;
- Developing, implementing, and evaluating facility policies, procedures, and guidelines on an annual and ongoing basis;
- In the absence of the Director of Nursing, performing their duties.
The ADON also oversees staff development, working with the VP of Clinical Services to coordinate and facilitate orientation, preceptor, mentor, and leadership programs within the facility.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Facilitating the implementation of new policies and procedures within the facility;
- Planned for and facilitates professional, management, leadership, and personal growth opportunities;
- Participating in staff competency evaluations and performance audits, and providing hands-on, just-in-time training to respond to facility education needs;
- Overseeing student nurse/nursing assistant schedules for clinical experiences in the facility.
Qualifications for this position include:
- A registered nurse, currently licensed by the State of Minnesota;
- An interest in and knowledge pertaining to safety regulations, accident prevention, disaster preparedness, microorganisms, infection prevention, and control measures;
- An interest in teaching both professional and non-professional staff;
- Basic computer competencies or willingness to attend training to attain competency;
- Flexibility with working hours and the ability to work independently.
