Job Summary
The Wastewater Control Operator plays a direct role in maintaining, operating, and repairing the wastewater treatment plant. Including but not limited to monitoring equipment, collecting and testing samples, and treating wastewater.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform treatment process and maintenance of treatment facility equipment to assure proper operations.
- Conducts routine sampling and field testing of water and/or wastewater.
- Compiles data for chemical use and keeps records on equipment and plant operations.
- Engages in the emergency repair and maintenance of treatment equipment, pumps, motors, sensing devices, instrumentation, and electrical equipment.
- Responds to call outs and after-hours emergencies.
- Provides customer service functions when necessary.
- May clean and maintain treatment plant grounds when necessary.
- May communicate with client and customers related to routine technical aspects of operations.
- May coordinate maintenance activities at the treatment facility.
- Understands and adheres to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions.
- Completes special projects upon requests, and other duties may be assigned.
Education
Required: High school diploma or GED supplemented by specialized training or college coursework in wastewater treatment, chemistry, biology, environmental science, or other related science courses.
Experience
Required: 1-3 years of wastewater treatment experience or experience working in a similar role, in an industrial setting.
Preferred: 3-5 years of wastewater treatment experience or experience working in a similar role, in an industrial setting.
Position Requirements
Required: Must possess strong mechanical aptitude, customer service focus, active listening skills, and effective communication skills. Must be able to excel in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred: Beneficial to have strong critical thinking, persuasion, and comprehension skills. Experience with plumbing, electrical, valves and pump knowledge is highly desired. Knowledge of the composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods. Adaptable and open to change, high energy, self-starter, hands on.
