Contract Manufacturing Engineer – Supplier & Assembly Oversight

We seek an experienced Engineer for a 3-month contract to develop supplier relationships and oversee assembly and quality control at local machine shops. This role requires supplier management, cost control, scheduling, and quality assurance expertise to ensure components meet precise tolerances and production standards. Successful performance may lead to a full-time hire after the contract period. This is a very exciting opportunity with a fantastic and well-established company.
Location
Candidate must live in one of the following cities or surrounding areas for easy commute.
- Whatcom County (Bellingham, Ferndale, Blaine).
- Skagit County (Mount Vernon, Burlington)
- Snohomish County (Everett)
- Spokane County (Spokane)
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and develop manufacturing partnerships.
- Establish and maintain production schedules with suppliers to meet deadlines while upholding quality standards.
- Oversee assembly operations at supplier locations, ensuring compliance with specifications.
- Implement and enforce quality control processes, utilizing calipers, micrometers, and other precision measurement tools.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, enhancing part manufacturability and cost efficiency.
- Troubleshoot production issues and recommend design modifications to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Maintain documentation for process improvements, inspection records, and supplier performance evaluations.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of quality control methods, including precision measurement tools.
- Ability to develop and oversee supplier operations effectively.
- Experience in cost management and supplier negotiations.
- Proficiency in scheduling best practices for production timelines and supplier coordination.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
Nice to Have
- Proven experience in machining and manufacturing processes (CNC, fabrication, welding, etc.).
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) is a plus.
- Degree in mechanical engineering or similar.
