Position Title: Assistant Controller
Reporting into Title: Corporate Controller
Position Purpose/Summary: The Assistant Controller plays a key role in supporting corporate accounting, operational accounting, and strategic finance initiatives. This position is responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, variance analysis, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls. The role requires collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to support the financial health of the organization.

Up to 2 staff members (depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities
- Perform journal entries to record financial transactions accurately.
- Properly code transactions within the general ledger and maintain GL schedules.
- Conduct reconciliations for accrual, prepaid, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Manage fixed asset and lease accounting.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and audit requirements.
- Monthly and year-end business unit and consolidated financial statement preparation.
- Prepare monthly and year-to-date variance analysis versus budget.
- Analyze trends in key financial metrics, including revenue, margins, and expenses.
- Work with the sales and supply chain functions to support the forecasting process, turning sales forecasts into full P&L projections.
- Assist in continuous improvement of budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support business decision-making.
- Implement and optimize business intelligence tools and dashboard reporting.
- Pricing analysis, including profitability metrics by customer and product.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Work cross-functionally to support strategic initiatives and financial planning.
- Assist in preparing documentation for audits, tax filings, and regulatory reports.
- Participate in capital expenditure evaluations and financial assessments of investment projects.
- Timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis.
- Effective implementation of internal controls and compliance measures.
- Demonstrated leadership in supporting financial planning and operational efficiency.

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Required).
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Preferred).
- CPA and/or CMA certification (Preferred).
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in finance and accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
- Experience with strategic planning, cost accounting, and internal controls.
- Familiarity with the packaging industry is a plus.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Microsoft Great Plains, Navision, or similar ERP systems.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with Power BI and business intelligence tools preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
- High ethical standards and ability to handle confidential information.
- Primarily an office-based role with occasional travel as needed.
- Ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer, and engage in regular communication.
- May need to lift or move up to 20 lbs occasionally.
