Purpose of the Role
Designs electrical systems for large and complex buildings including dual redundant power distribution systems with 100% back-up generator power, including supporting lighting, fire alarm, monitoring, and security systems. Coordinates designs with architectural, mechanical, and structural departments. Support Project and Construction Managers.
Duties & Responsibilites
Work independently with minimal supervision to prepare written reports, electrical engineering construction documents, construction specifications, project budget cost and review of contractor prepared equipment drawings and details. Specific experience to include :
- Mission critical, Telecom or Data Center design experience
- Fill the role of electrical project lead; Meet with clients, understand needs and define scope
- Prepare specifications, drawings & details for electrical equipment vendor to obtain pricing
- Develop construction drawing using AutoCAD and REVIT
- QA / QC electrical construction documents
- Respond to code official reviews and comments
- Attend construction meetings, review shop drawings, respond to contractor RFIs
- Conduct field visits, final inspections, and prepare written punch list
- Overnight travel for field surveys, inspections, client meetings, etc.
- Proficient with lighting simulation software. SWSG uses AGi32.
- Proficient with power coordination and arc flash studies. SWSG uses SKM.
- Experience with energy code analysis, compliance review including the use of ComCheck.
- Write / edit / check Masterspec specifications
- Write / edit / review commissioning scripts for complex systems
- Perform and write feasibility and facility condition assessment reports
- Experience with manufacturer equipment selection programs
- LEED certification is desired
- Perform local and national code analysis; ensure compliance with codes / regulations / ordinances
- Ability to acquire PE licenses in other states as needed. Sign and seal drawings as appropriate
- Assist and provide guidance to junior electrical engineering team members
Qualifications
BS in Electrical Engineering
EIT certification or PE License with NCEES council record is strongly desired
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in the commercial construction industry.
