About Us: The Washington Bus is a statewide movement building organization that increases the civic and political access and participation of young people. We focus our resources on empowering young people of color, LGBTQIA youth, first generation college students, and young people from working class and immigrant communities. We activate our generation through voter education, civic participation, and hands-on democracy while working to put the young people most often excluded from the political process at its center.

Position Summary: The Washington Bus is seeking an energetic and strategic Lead Organizer to help mobilize thousands of young people to vote in the 2025 election cycle and beyond. If you are passionate about organizing our generation for change—through direct voter engagement, grassroots leadership development, and electoral organizing—we want to hear from you. The Lead Field Organizer will play a key role in assisting with the creation of an electoral field plan and leading its implementation, including overseeing field operations, managing volunteers, and supervising temporary or permanent organizers as part of a field team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Electoral Mobilization (60%)
- Collaborate with leadership to develop the organization’s electoral field plan, contributing strategic insights on voter engagement, mobilization tactics, and youth turnout
- Execute on campaign field goals, dedicating at least 15 hours/week to field work, including: canvassing events, door knocking, phone and text banks
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for voter pledge drives, phone banks, text banks, and canvassing
- Lead and support a team of temporary or permanent organizers in their fieldwork, providing guidance, training, and accountability to meet voter engagement goals.
- Support the Program Team in voter outreach and education event planning and execution
- Other duties as assigned
Year-Round Organizing (20%)
- After the election cycle, support youth-led legislative advocacy by mobilizing young people to take action during the Washington State legislative session
- Assist in issue-based organizing and advocacy campaigns to build long-term youth political
- power
- Develop and maintain relationships with coalition partners, youth leaders, and community
- organizations
- Support communication needs, such as writing volunteer action emails, in order to engage
- our volunteers in opportunities year-round
Operations (20%)
- Maintain high data quality standards by collecting, tracking, and inputting all voter
- registration, pledge, volunteer, field data, and expenses into our tracking systems
- Monitor field performance metrics and adjust strategies as needed to meet campaign
- goals
- Keep track of calendar and hours, submit weekly timesheets
- Attend and participate in program meetings and provide progress-to-goal updates
- Participate in the organization-wide annual strategic planning and review cycle
What We Are Looking For
- Enthusiasm and belief in the Washington Bus’s mission to engage young people in the civic process
- At least one cycle of campaign field experience with proven ability to deliver results. 2-3 cycles of campaign field experience is highly desired
- Ability to engage and connect with people of all backgrounds around civic engagement
- Understanding of Washington State’s political, social and economic landscapes
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills
- Experience using NGP/Voter Activation Network, as well as auto-dialing and texting systems
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of how power and privilege create barriers to access in our political system
- Positive attitude, team spirit, and flexibility
Compensation & Benefits: Our Lead Field Organizer will receive an annual salary of $65,145.96-$70,122.40, based on years of experience, for 35 hours per week, which is considered full-time. Location & Travel
- Our office is based in Seattle, Washington, and our Lead Field Organizer should live in the King County area within a reasonable commute. This position is hybrid, with one all-staff in-person day a week. All canvassing field work must be done in-person.
- This position requires frequent travel throughout the King County area
- Reliable transportation access is required, and a valid driver’s license and/or reliable
- transportation is preferred
- This position often requires evening and weekend work
