What We’re Looking For:

The Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) is recruiting to fill an Associate position located in Spokane, WA. This position works to prepare correspondence and reports, triage incoming phone calls, perform data entry using various databases, and assist Council Representatives and the Field Supervisor with administrative functions. Associates are key positions that require excellent communication skills, problem solving skills and the ability to use good judgment in evaluating situations. The Associate helps develop and implement internal office procedures and recommends changes in procedures or rules to facilitate effectiveness. This position must utilize good decision-making skills while working with sensitive material and maintaining confidentiality.

Additional duties include:

  • Create worksite lists & log event attendance in various data bases.
  • Maintain case file and track status to keep Labor Advocates/Council Representatives apprised of deadlines.
  • Prepares packets for position reallocations, steward notebooks, training packets, and Grievance Committee packets. Schedules various meetings and hearings for Council Representatives.
  • Assists with flyers, membership mailings, rally preparation work, and the bi-annual convention.
  • Coordinates and maintains grievance information in Unionware & other record keeping systems.
  • Verifies accuracy of records and works with field staff to ensure proper documentation is recorded.
  • Confer with Labor Advocates/Council Representatives on case status and needs.
  • Prepare, proof, and edit correspondence when requested.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of data entry experience.
  • Proficiency in typing and numeric key entry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a labor union.
  • Two years of administrative experience.

Special Note:

  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • It is expected that selected candidates live within commuting distance of their assigned work location and live within Washington state.
  • This position may be required to work some weekends.
  • Travel is usually limited to the designated area of responsibility
  • A driving record request, reference checks and a background check will be conducted as a condition of employment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Benefits include 12 paid holidays, annual and sick leave, medical/dental/vision, life, and long-term disability insurance, personal holidays, 401K, Pension, and more.
  • The salary range is $48,911 to $59,780 and will be determined commensurate with experience.
